Group for Research on Academic and Professional English
About us
GRAPE (Group for Research on Academic and Professional English) was created about fifteen years ago, though some of its members had already been working together in a group focused on English for Specific Purposes.
The reason for creating GRAPE was to join the research interests of a number of lecturers in the Department of English Studies at Universitat Jaume I, though eventually we have added collaborators from other universities with similar research interests. The lines of research of GRAPE are analysis of the academic and professional discourse in English, especially from a multimodal perspective, though we also develop research on Content and Language Integrated Learning.
Though GRAPE is mainly a research group, there are also other activities developed by members of the group, such as the Master ELIT (English Language for International Trade), in which students learn business communication in context, with language as well as business content teachers.
The members of GRAPE also participate in the Doctoral programme for Applied Languages, Literature and Translation at Universitat Jaume I and have supervised a number of theses in the last years.
